Late yesterday, Attorney General Brnovich ruled that a 1901 law banning abortion, including no exceptions for rape or incest and mandatory jail time for medical providers, was now in effect in Arizona.
This is a pathetic abuse of power by someone who is desperate to save a failing campaign. By trying to save his own political ambitions, Brnovich is implementing an extreme law that the overwhelming majority of Arizonans do not support.
I promise you, we’re not going to just accept this pathetic ploy. We’re going to be working with partners as they explore all possible strategies.

This is exactly what extremist Republicans have been counting on since the Roe reversal — legal chaos and confusion — while lives hang in the balance.
It’s why they immediately celebrated Brnovich’s decision to try and implement a pre-statehood law that would imprison medical professionals providing care and Arizonans seeking it. The frontrunners for the AZ GOP nomination for governor and attorney general all signaled they supported Brnovich’s move and would follow in his footsteps.
It’s clear if we want to protect Arizonans, we have to elect pro-choice Democrats who will work to reverse these terrible decisions and laws.
AZ Dems up and down the ballot stand ready to protect mothers, families, doctors, and medical professionals because no one should be thrown in jail for providing or receiving essential medical care.
