What should our collective work include in 2020?

As the end of this year approaches, we understand that you're busy but we hope you will take just a few minutes to fill out this survey : [link removed] to help us assess where IEN, as a member of It Takes Roots, may want to proceed in relation to electoral organizing in the coming year?
 

We are asking Indigenous and frontline organizational leadership and members to provide us with this valuable feedback.

Please complete survey by Friday, December 6th, 2019.
 

Right now, amidst the global right wing backlash we are looking at the opportunities here in the US to challenge the traditional Democratic party's agenda, and along with the mass mobilizations currently taking place, consider this as a pivotal moment in time to assess our movement’s future role in the upcoming 2020 elections.
 

IEN, as an alignment of the left grassroots organizing sector, and as ITR members and leaders, are asking what our roles and responsibilities might be in this historical juncture.
 

Will we continue to actively oppose the rise of authoritarian and neo-liberal power?
 

How will our work impact the issues we are currently addressing and others that our communities care about?
 

How will we contend for governing influence and ensure a just and equitable transformation in the long term?
 

Asking for your input begins this process and is a critical first step in our efforts to assess, pivot, and more importantly move (be nimble) together, as we respond to the needs of our Indigenous and frontline communities.
 

This survey is also another element of our agenda as we prepare for the May 2020, It Takes Roots Convening and will help clarify what our collective work may include moving into 2020.

To what depth and scope are you engaging in the 2020 election cycle? Are you involved in local, state, or national electoral organizing work? How do you see electoral organizing within a long term strategy? Do you see a need for national alliances such as ITR to engage in the 2020 election ecosystem? How should ITR members be preparing ourselves for the different outcomes of the election and its implication on our work (i.e. prepare for rapid response because more barriers  against advancing alternatives with our people may come under attack)? A Trump win? A corporate Democrat (Biden, Booker) win? A left to progressive leaning Democrat win (Warren/Sanders)?  Should we be organizing to contend for governing power?
