Politico reports, "The Chamber of Commerce is going after CFPB Director
Rohit Chopra in a public campaign, accusing him of attempting to
'radically reshape' American finance."
Why are they so mad? Because after Americans, including thousands of PCCC
members, submitted public comments this Spring to help the Consumer
Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) -- led by Elizabeth Warren ally Rohit
Chopra -- slash predatory "junk fees," the CFPB just made their first
moves to slash these fees and save consumers billions of dollars. And
there's more to come.
The banks are furious that a government agency is actually protecting
consumers instead of bank profits. But we can fight back. They want to
attack Rohit Chopra for saving consumers billions of dollars? We'll file
even more complaints against them -- and go after even more of the junk
fees that pad corporate profits at the expense of consumers.

As a refresher -- junk fees include ridiculously high late payment
penalties, overdraft fees, fees for making returns, fees for using an
out-of-network ATM, fees for money transfers, fees for inactive accounts
with no transactions, fees to speak to a real person to get help, fees to
pay your bill by phone, and more.
"Junk fees" are predatory. They hurt consumers. They hit the most
vulnerable hardest. And they lead to spiraling debt.
With overdraft fees, a cup of coffee can go from $3 to $35! An
out-of-network ATM withdrawal can match a $20 withdrawal with a $20 fee.
Prepaid credit cards can cost as much in fees as the value on the card.
In 2019 alone, banks and credit card companies charged Americans almost
$30 billion in late-payment fees and overdraft charges.
But we are not powerless. The CFPB is on the case and, together, we can
stop this abusive corporate practice.
Going after Big Bank abuse is a great example of why the PCCC
[ [link removed] ]recommended Rohit Chopra to the Biden Administration early on.
