Dear People For Supporter,

It's been a breathtaking, and at times, a bone-chilling month. Since the
time we launched this member drive campaign...

We’ve seen the dire consequences of a far-right extremist takeover of our
Supreme Court – with decisions openly hostile to long-held rights and
precedents, such as the reversal of Roe v. Wade, the decimation of
state-level gun restrictions in the Bruen decision (at a time when mass
shootings are at epidemic levels!), and – just this morning – a
polluter-friendly ruling that kneecaps the EPA’s ability to address our
climate crisis.

We’ve also learned some truly incredible details about the seditious
conspiracy that led to the insurrection and attempted overthrow of our
government last January 6, including the disturbing role of the disgraced
former president as he fomented the insurrection and even tried to lead it
in person – despite advice from the top White House lawyer that Trump and
his acolytes would be "charged with every crime imaginable" if they
followed through. Despite all this, Republican fealty to Trump and his Big
Lie so far seems unchanged.

We know the situation is grim. But what we’re seeing
now is exactly why the need to keep fighting and the work of People For
the American Way are more important than ever.

And that’s why we’re here: to give you the agency to make a difference in
dark times like these ... and to help you keep fighting for the rights,
values, and democratic principles that define our shared vision for our
country.

Today is the final day of our mid-year member drive and we’re still more
than 300 donations short of our goal to bring 1,000 new or renewed members
into this fight before the end of June.

* Fight back against racist voter suppression efforts in multiple states
this fall by ensuring that all voters have the information they need
to cast a vote and have that vote counted.

* Support our Right Wing Watch team as they document, expose and disrupt
the Far Right – including a multi-pronged publicity and electoral
accountability campaign for anyone who aided or abetted the attempted
overthrow of our government.

* Continue supporting the nomination and confirmation of federal judges
with a diversity of backgrounds and experiences, and who have a
demonstrated commitment to equality and justice for all.

American Way and elect progressive candidates at all levels – local, state
and federal – to actually pass legislation that addresses the attacks on
our ability to vote, the erosion of our rights, the gun violence problem,

P.S. Despite all the grim news, I do want you to know that I’m getting a
little more optimistic about our future as a nation these days. First,
because I think the Court’s decisions have gone so far out of the
mainstream, that they’ll have a big electoral impact this fall ... and
secondly, because we recently convened a cross-disciplinary group of our
Young Elected Officials and African-American Religious Leaders networks,
and these folks are doing some amazing work to move bold and innovative
programs at the local level to protect our rights and reimagine public
safety. More to come on that later, so stay tuned!
