Defend climate protections with triple the impact

The Supreme Court sided with the coal industry and its allies today.

The opinion, handed down just hours ago, restricts EPA’s ability to limit dangerous climate pollution from existing fossil-fuel-fired U.S. power plants – one of the largest sources of climate-destabilizing pollution in the world.

The one piece of good news is that this ruling does recognize EPA’s authority and responsibility to limit climate pollution from cars and trucks, oil and gas development, and industrial sites.

EDF’s legal team will continue to vigorously defend EPA’s authority to protect people and communities from dangerous climate pollution in these areas, while our sister organization, EDF Action, pursues legislative solutions to the challenges created by today’s Supreme Court ruling.

The best way to support a strong EPA and defend tough climate protections is by donating to our Climate Legal Defense Fund.

From researching legal precedent, to drafting rigorous legal briefs and motions, to building a broad and diverse coalition of allies, bringing a successful lawsuit is an incredibly labor-intensive effort.

Your contribution will provide urgently needed resources to strengthen lawsuits in defense of climate action, including those already in the courts and working their way up to SCOTUS.

And thanks to our $2-for-$1 Summer Match, your gift to our Climate Legal Defense Fund will be tripled in value—and the more you give, the more matching dollars you'll unlock.

We won’t sugarcoat it—this ruling is a difficult setback. But we still see a path to saving our critical climate protections, and we will continue down that path with more determination than ever.

Thanks to a $2-for-$1 match, your gift will have three times the impact as we fight to ensure a vital Earth—one with clean air and a safer climate—for all.

Our coalition of climate action advocates and frontline communities are disturbed, but not deterred by this decision. We will continue fighting for EPA’s right and responsibility to limit dangerous climate pollution—whether in court, in Congress, in state legislatures or at the ballot box.

No matter what, we will never stop fighting to protect our right to a cleaner, healthier, more vital Earth—for everyone and everything alive today, and for generations to come.

Thank you for fighting with us,
