Democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia is “alarmed.”
Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine feels “misled.”
Here’s what’s going on:
Both senators say they voted to put Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court only after each man assured them, during his confirmation, that he would not overturn Roe v. Wade if elevated to the highest court in the land.
Of course, Gorsuch and Kavanaugh just did exactly that as part of the Supreme Court majority that did, in fact, overturn Roe v. Wade last week — setting reproductive justice back half a century or more.
So what can be done to counteract this Supreme Court disaster?
- Well, the House of Representatives has already passed a bill that would codify abortion access and reproductive rights into federal law.
- But the Senate can’t pass the bill because of the arcane tool of racism and obstruction known as the filibuster.
- So it’s time for Manchin and Collins to put up or shut up.
Tell Senators Joe Manchin and Susan Collins:
Spare us your crocodile tears over feeling betrayed by Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh. If you truly support women and pregnant people, vote to set aside the filibuster so the Senate can pass legislation that will codify abortion access and reproductive rights into federal law.

Thank you for taking action.
