Dear Neighbor,
Hope you are having a good summer as we make our way to this Independence Day holiday weekend. Please be safe out on the roads and on the water as we celebrate.
Here are a couple of notes I would like to pass along regarding deadlines approaching to apply for drought relief and/or the position of Director of Minnesota?s Broadband Development.
Deadline approaching to apply for drought relief
There is a 5 p.m. July 6 deadline for livestock farmers and specialty crop producers impacted by last year's dry conditions to apply for drought relief. Those who were impacted may be reimbursed for up to $7,500 per farm for drought-related expenses incurred after June 1, 2021, and before May 23, 2022. If the total amount requested from all eligible applicants during the initial application period exceeds the total amount of funds available, all applications will be pro-rated.
The application is available on the MDA?s drought relief page. Applicants are highly encouraged to submit their application through the online grants management system to ensure it is received in a timely manner. If you do not submit online, applications can be emailed or mailed to the addresses listed on the aforementioned website.
Applications open for Broadband Director
July 8 is the deadline to apply to be the Director of Minnesota?s Office of Broadband Development. The state is working to provide every Minnesotan with access to reliable broadband, and the OBD oversees programs that help get us closer to that reality. The state indicates, through the past several years of the state's border-to-border broadband program, about 93% of Minnesota households have reliable broadband.
This most recent call for applications built on appropriations from both the 2021 and 2022 legislative sessions. This recent grant round contains the highest-ever amount of funding for the Border-to-Border Broadband Infrastructure grant program at $95 million. Funding from two sources ? state and federal ? can be used to reimburse for up to half the cost of the broadband infrastructure deployed.
Click here to apply to serve as the director of OBD, which indicates it is looking for someone with the skills and passion to lead state broadband efforts, working with a diverse set of stakeholders and a committed staff.
Until next time, have a great 4th of July and, as always, please let me know how I may help.
Sincerely,
Lisa
