BREAKING, John xxxxxx: Melanie was just arrested during a civil disobedience protest with Planned Parenthood, Working Families Party, and CPD Action at the Supreme Court in Washington, DC.
Melanie has always been on the front lines of the fight to protect abortion, and today she joined thousands of other activists who stepped into their collective power to protest the right-wing Supreme Court’s cruel and capricious decision to strip us of our bodily autonomy and our right to privacy.
Thousands were and still are being arrested in Washington but the reality is they will be let go after a couple of hours — but for millions of people in states where abortion is now criminalized, their arrests will be far longer and far more severe.
Today isn’t about Melanie — it’s about all of us. When we can’t rely on our institutions to protect us, we have to protect each other. We keep each other safe — and we will demand what we deserve until we get it. This moment, and how we respond, matters — and this fight will take all of us.
Our actions right now set the tone going forward — whether we sit quietly and accept the continuing erasure of our basic human rights by the conservative-packed Supreme Court and a Congress rigged by dark money, or whether we fight back.
