Urgent: Our Fight for Abortion Access |
Friend – Reproductive rights are human rights. Period. But in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision last week, millions of people in half of the U.S. states – in particular, people of color, low-income people, young people, undocumented immigrants, and rural populations – are now at risk of losing access to abortion care and being forced into pregnancies against their will. It's difficult to overstate the devastating and irrevocable impact that overturning Roe will have – on people's health, their lives, and their futures. But the ACLU has been preparing for this crisis moment – and is in a unique and powerful position to fight back. Their lawyers, experts, and advocates in all 50 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico have the on-the-ground strength to work as hard as it takes – for as long as it takes. But as an ACLU artist ambassador, I also know how critical the strength of its community is to this fight, too. That means you, ACLU Supporter. This most urgent, virtual event will detail what the decision means for access to abortion throughout the country – ACLU's critical strategy for the fight ahead and the challenges we now face on everything from voting rights to LGBTQ rights and more. And most importantly, the panel will break down exactly how you can help in fighting back for all our rights. So please, be sure to join us for this emergency town hall today on our YouTube page. And whether you can join or not, I hope you will always remember that the ACLU will be bringing everything they have to this fight and won't ever give up. Together – with you, me, and all others who cherish liberty, equality, and democracy – we will find a path forward. With strength,
Padma Lakshmi P.S. If you're hoping for an immediate way to help the ACLU's long-term work on abortion access – and all our rights – please consider becoming a monthly donor today if you aren't already. And know your reliable, steady support will be absolutely invaluable to the critical fights ahead. Thank you. *The Town Hall will have an American Sign Language interpreter and closed captioning available.
