? ? ? ? ? ? In accordance with the provisions of the Wyoming Environmental Quality Act and Chapter 1 of the Solid Waste Rules, the Johnson County Solid Waste Disposal District has submitted an application for a major permit amendment for the Buffalo Landfill.
??????????? This facility provides for the disposal of municipal solid waste and construction and demolition waste which have been generated within a one-hundred-mile radius of Johnson County.? The 106-acre facility is located approximately three and one-half miles southeast of Buffalo, Wyoming.? More specifically, this facility is located in the NE ? Section 5, T50N R81W, and the SE ? Section 32 T50N R81W in Johnson County, Wyoming. The current total volumetric disposal capacity of this facility is estimated to be approximately 1,791,306 cubic yards of solid waste. The life of the facility is estimated to be 40 years.
??????????? The purpose of the major permit amendment application is to allow the operator of this facility to construct a new construction and demolition disposal unit. The new construction and demolition waste disposal unit will provide approximately 29 years of disposal capacity. The new construction and demolition disposal unit will increase the total permitted disposal capacity of the landfill by 142,000 cubic yards which is an increase of 8% over the current total permitted disposal capacity of the facility. The new total permitted disposal capacity of the facility is 1,933,306 cubic yards.
??????????? The Department of Environmental Quality, Solid and Hazardous Waste Division (DEQ) has reviewed the major permit amendment application and determined that it is generally complete. Any interested person has the right to file comments on the major permit amendment application and the DEQ?s completeness review. The period for providing comments shall begin on June 30th, 2022 and end on August 8th 2022. Comments must be received by 5:00 PM on the last day of the notice period.
