June is Pride Month: a time to raise awareness of the issues facing the LGBTQ+ community and to encourage inclusiveness. It’s also a time for parents and others to educate themselves about the differences between a person’s biological sex, gender and sexuality, and how understanding these differences can help them become supportive of sexual and gender minority youth.

Did you know that more than 10% of adults with autism may identify as a gender different from their sex assigned at birth? While we don't know why LGBTQ+ identities may be more common among autistic people, we do know that support and acceptance are important.

Even though the acronyms LGBTQIA+ are used often today, not everyone knows what all those letters mean. Here's a quick review of LGBTQ+ terminology as well as an explanation of how to use the proper pronouns when referring to gender identity.
