Yesterday was a difficult day. Senator Kamala Harris has ended her 2020 presidential bid. When Kamala's campaign first launched, she was a top contender for the presidency.
It's heartbreaking that someone as qualified, passionate, and motivated as Kamala has dropped out when we all know there are other less-qualified folks still in the race.
This is why fighting to elect Black leaders is so important. From the get-go, we have had to work twice as hard and twice as long to lead in a society that does not value our voice, our story, and our leadership as much as others'.
I want us all to thank Kamala -- for running for the people, for putting Black voices and issues front and center, and for giving it her all to be the next president we all so rightfully deserve. Please take a moment to add your name to our thank you card:
Although Kamala is no longer running for president, The Collective will continue to support her efforts to strengthen our democracy and fight for the people.
In her announcement, Kamala said, "I want to be clear with you: I am still very much in this fight."
We will follow her example. There are still countless campaigns going on around the country that impact our communities just as much as the presidential election. We have to support Black leaders up and down the ballot at all levels of government.
We aren't giving up the fight, team. But first: help us thank Kamala for her leadership and commitment to Black excellence. Please add your name to our card today.
Thank you,
