Dear John,
In 2018, there were 41 anti-LGBTQ bills introduced in states across the country. In just the first three months of 2022, there were nearly 240 – most of them targeting trans people. Twenty-four of those anti-trans bills have been enacted so far, including eleven that go into effect tomorrow.
I know this isn’t what most people want to hear during Pride month. We want this to be a time of celebration for our community. But let’s not forget how Pride originated: with Black and Brown trans activists fighting back against oppression. The best way we can celebrate them is to continue their legacy.
