John,

For years, we have been calling out Facebook and Instagram for prioritizing unproven anti-abortion theories over real, effective medical information. So much so that our work was actually referenced by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) in a letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Everyone deserves information about safe abortion, including abortion pills. Especially now. Give today.

Since last Friday, with the horrific and devastating decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe and the constitutionally protected right to abortion, we have seen and heard reports showing an increase in suppression of abortion-related content on Instagram. Accounts that disseminate information about self-managed abortion, abortion funding, educational tools, and even simply posting pictures of “pro-abortion” actions are being hidden in stories and posts.

This is not only unacceptable and harms people seeking that information, it shows a very real future in which tech companies can decide what abortion content is and isn’t acceptable. We can’t stand for this.

Meta and Mark Zuckerberg have a public health responsibility to promote factual medical information, especially in this vital and confusing period with the fall of Roe.

Abortion information is for everyone. Join us.

Sincerely,

Erin Matson
Executive Director, Reproaction

P.S. Bogus claims and pseudo-science should never be allowed, let alone over accurate, medical information. Give to show you agree.
