Hi John, I have some exciting news to share with you: Last night, I officially became the Democratic nominee to continue representing Illinois’ 14th district in Congress. I’m filled with gratitude for this team, and for your support which has made this moment possible.
Serving our community in Congress these last three-plus years has been the honor of my life, and it’s a responsibility I don’t take lightly.
In 2018, this incredible team won our bitterly competitive race, helping me make history as the youngest Black woman to ever serve in Congress. And since then, I’ve had nine pieces of legislation enacted into law — reducing the cost of generic insulin, lowering health insurance costs and premiums, improving maternal health care for our veterans, and more.
We have a lot to be proud of, but as we both know, our work isn’t finished yet.
As a registered nurse, so many of the fights ahead are deeply personal to me — from protecting the right to safe and legal reproductive care, to reforming a deeply unequal health care system, to building an economy that works for everyday Americans. I’m continuing our work to make progress for all Americans — but I can’t do it without you, John.
In 2020, I won my race by just 5,374 votes — less than 1.5 percent — and we’re in for another close race this year. Our campaign will rely on support from this grassroots team in the months ahead more than ever to keep up our organizing and outreach efforts, continue making progress for our communities, and win the expensive midterm election ahead of us.
So today, I’m reaching out to ask you to be a part of our historic campaign once again. Will you pitch in to help us kick off the General Election on strong footing and continue working for the change our families are counting on?

In the weeks and months ahead, I know we’ll see plenty of nasty attacks from Republicans who are determined to flip our seat and the House majority with it. And at times, things may look discouraging.
But I know in my heart we can win this race, no matter how much money they spend or how much hate they throw at us, because this incredible team has shown time and again that we’re dedicated to making life better for working families, and we’re willing to work for it.
Thanks for everything, John. More soon.
