Each year, a budget for the upcoming fiscal year is due by the close of business on June 30, and each year, the Legislature fails to make that deadline, and instead puts off budgetary business until after the July 4 Independence Day holiday. That means any sort of relief coming back to taxpayers beleaguered by roaring inflation and out-of-control fuel costs remains in limbo. They may operate with zero sense of urgency, but you do not. I set a goal earlier this week to find at least 20 new doors each day between now and midnight on the 30th (tomorrow), and I'm proud to report that we're well on our way to exceeding that benchmark.
