Dear Friends,
On Friday, a radical Supreme Court ended the constitutionally protected right to abortion by overturning Roe v. Wade. This decision is a dark stain on our nation, erasing a 50-year-old protection of women’s bodily autonomy.
The House passed the Women’s Health Protection Act ten months ago to protect the right to safe and legal abortion at a federal level. The Senate must act to pass this legislation and send it to the President’s desk to become law, but the Senate filibuster is once again standing in the way.
I’m proud we protected the right to abortion in our state in the ‘90s when I served as president of the Connecticut State Senate. We were the first state in the nation to ensure women have the right to safe and legal abortion. Since then, Connecticut has taken further action to ensure we are a safe harbor for those seeking reproductive care across the nation.
No matter what state you’re in, it’s important to know your rights. You can find more information here.
We will not give up this fight. Our United States Senate must urgently pass the Women’s Health Protection Act.
