Hello John,
Last week was rough, y’all. We all know that gender, like race, is a social construct. But these social constructs have created systems and structures throughout history that have boxed people into false binaries that have perpetuated tremendous harm.
Even as we celebrate this month (and trust — we love a celebration), we must remember that last year marked the worst year for anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation in the U.S. as the 19th discriminatory bill was enacted into law, and another 240 new bills have been introduced in 30 states this year. Plus, we just saw the Supreme Court declare we do not have autonomy over our bodies.
I believe that our liberation is bound together and that we must continue to fight for one another. We must unite against gender norms. We must make it clear that WE own our bodies. Our communities carry so much — joy, grief, hope, expectation, love, and deep visioning. The work that we do at re:power is more necessary than ever. We are pressing forward. We are rising. We are here. Thank you for being with us on this journey.

Last week, SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision which protected the right to abortion in this country. That decision was not a surprise — we knew this was the goal. It feels scary and bad, especially for women of color, non-binary and gender non-conforming people of color, poor people, and anyone who lives at the intersections of marginalization based on race, gender, sexuality, and class. State supreme courts have been a part of conservatives’ analysis for decades, and progressives are unfortunately just catching up. Now, more than ever, we need to take the fight to the state courts. Join us for a free webinar led by and for organizers and activists to learn about how state courts impact every issue we organize around — and what we can do about it.

"For those of us who are running towards liberation… it is not just on you, one person. If we each act like it is all on my back that’s just exhausting and unsustainable—we are part of a community, a web of people." [[link removed]]
