Dear John,
The anti-abortion movement is wasting no time telling us their plan for even more harm, now that the Supreme Court has reversed 50 years of precedent in their ruling of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey and will leave millions with no abortion access in reach.
That plan? Hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars to dangerous anti-abortion fake clinics. You might be thinking, “Don’t they already get state funding? What’s new?” For starters, they want MORE government funds to go to anti-abortion fake clinics, and the president of anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, Marjorie Dannenfelser, says she has spoken to 22 governors around the country who are receptive to her scheme to have states increase funding for anti-abortion fake clinics. [1]
We have been sounding the alarm that anti-abortion fake clinics are far more dangerous than they make themselves out to be. They are the creepy, invasive arm of the anti-abortion movement that could easily be tasked with enforcement of abortion bans, as many of their workers are not bound by HIPAA regulations, which require that your personal health information not be shared by medical providers without your consent. [2] But we know the ‘pro-life’ movement couldn’t give a damn about consent or autonomy.
As we navigate this human rights crisis in real time, it is essential that we continue to expose anti-abortion fake clinics for the corruption and hypocrisy they spew. We will continue to see states propose and bolster funding for anti-abortion fake clinics, and their movement attempt to legitimize their services, but not without a fight.
Now is the time to take let anti-abortion fake clinics know how we feel about them. Check out these resources to equip yourself with the knowledge and power to take bold action and fight back:
