Friend,

I don’t know about you, but I’m still processing the absolutely devastating SCOTUS decision overturning Roe v. Wade. Millions of Americans have taken to the streets to express their outrage, and students have been at the heart of these efforts to fight back. Students cannot and will not be ignored.

In the 2020 Presidential election, Texas saw dramatic increases in voter turnout for ages 18 to 30. Despite notions that young people are uninterested in politics, the upsurge of youth activism in recent years has shown that this is not the case.

We care deeply about issues of political and social justice, and we want you to care about issues affecting our future.

Student debt weighs on the shoulders of millions of Americans. Growing up, we were told that we needed a college education to be successful. But now that we’ve pursued that education, we’re left facing a job market with few prospects, and saddled with tens of thousands of dollars of debt.

It's obvious that our Republican representatives are not concerned about us -- at their convention, the Texas GOP opposed forgiving student debt in their party platform.

They didn’t stop there. The Texas GOP Convention delegation also doubled down on their stances against LGBTQIA+ communities -- which are already subjected to debates of their very existence by out-of-touch legislators that don’t listen to anyone but their ego and special interests.

And for nearly 50 years, abortion access has allowed students to further their education and careers and control if and when to start a family. But the reversal of Roe by conservative extremists on the court strips millions of students across the country of their right to bodily autonomy.

The Texas Republican Party's policy agenda is extremely harmful to all identities and intersectionalities represented by the student population.

So friend, will you split a $7 contribution between the Texas Democratic Party and Texas College Democrats to support student voter outreach this Midterm election cycle?

By electing Democrats who will actually listen to our concerns and offer support -- not contribute to our struggles, we can secure a bright blue future for my generation.

Thank you,

Bella Armenta
President, Texas College Democrats
