Friends,
This is a major victory.
In Illinois last night, our movement secured another important win -- helping a principled champion for diplomacy and democracy defeat a primary opponent backed by DMFI, a PAC closely allied with AIPAC.
Following significant support from JStreetPAC and the J Street Action Fund, Delia Ramirez trounced her opponent and secured the nomination for the solidly blue seat of IL-03.
She’s now all but certain to become the first Latina congresswoman from the Midwest, and a powerful voice in Congress for peace, justice and human rights. And she was one of three J Street endorsees who each won their competitive primaries in Illinois last night.
Ramirez’s big win is the latest proof that when our movement rallies together and works with our broad coalition of allies, we can defeat the hawkish, right-wing forces seeking to shape the future of Congress and the Democratic Party.
Together, we can stand firmly behind our vision for a secure, just and democratic Israel, and stop their efforts to crush principled progressives who support full human rights and self-determination for both Palestinians and Israelis.
The fight over the future of US politics and policy on this issue is far from over -- with some of the biggest battles still to come.
In Maryland and Michigan -- where we stand with longtime J Street allies Donna Edwards and Andy Levin -- we’re preparing for two more important primary races against opponents who are being backed by millions from AIPAC’s Super PAC.

In Maryland, we’re already seeing over $1.5 million in attack ads from AIPAC’s Super PAC against former Congresswoman Donna Edwards. One of J Street’s earliest champions during her first tenure in Congress, Edwards has a long and proud record of standing up for human rights, backing President Obama’s Iran nuclear deal and supporting a just, peaceful and free future for both Israelis and Palestinians.
In Michigan, we’re expecting millions in attack ads against Congressman Andy Levin, one of the House’s most respected Jewish progressives and a close friend of J Street. Levin has led the push in Congress for bold leadership to achieve a two-state solution and end the injustice of occupation -- all of which has made him one of AIPAC’s top targets.
These may be the two most fiercely fought primaries yet. We’ll need to rally our entire movement and our progressive allies as we go toe-to-toe with AIPAC and their Super PAC (which we now know has just taken millions of dollars in donations from two Republican billionaires).
Friend -- Can you make a contribution to fuel our work across the country as we fight for principled, values-driven leadership? Your contribution of any amount will help us close the gap >>Â
