John,

Alek Skarlatos says he wants to "stop the radicals from destroying our country."

Well, I suppose we agree on that much.

Here's where we see things differently:

I don't think it's radical to want women to be able to make their own medical decisions, or to support our LGBTQ+ neighbors and loved ones as they face brutal discrimination.

I don't think it's radical to take steps to end school shootings.

I don't think it's radical to want the ultra-wealthy to pay their fair share in taxes, or for us to fight climate change.

What is radical? A sitting President expressing support for the mob of rioters chanting "Hang Mike Pence."

What else is radical? A sitting President's futile attempt to wrestle control of a car from a Secret Service guard. That's another thing we learned this week.

And the most radical: That president's fantasy of leading an armed mob into the Capitol to overturn a free and fair election.

What we learned from this week's hearing will have a prominent place in the history books.

Know what else will be written about in the history books? How concerned citizens like us came together this year, organized a grassroots movement, and won the most consequential election of our lifetime.

This is why expanding our Democratic majority in Congress is so critical, John. Someone needs to both to demand accountability for Trump's attack on our democracy, and to start to undo the damage he and his followers have done to America.

Alek Skarlatos won't do either of those. He's a die-hard Trump supporter.

But I will.
