Abortion is already illegal or heavily restricted in at least 11 states following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Twelve other states have laws in place that will enable them to quickly ban or severely restrict access.

We’re paying particularly close attention to Florida. Currently, the right to an abortion remains uncertain.

However, this is important: GOP extremist Gov. DeSantis – one of the most dangerous members of the Republican Party – is up for reelection this year. We are determined to replace him with pro-choice champion, Nikki Fried.

Fried is running against self-proclaimed “pro-life” “Democrat”, Charlie Crist in Florida’s Democratic primary. Crist launched an unsuccessful bid for Senate (he ran as a Republican) in 2010 during which he made a campaign promise to promote “pro-life” measures in Congress.

Now, 12 years later, when asked “what’s changed” since the days of his full-throated opposition to a woman’s right to choose, he responded, “nothing.” (He has conveniently tweeted pro-choice sentiments since Friday, but we know never to trust former Republicans on this issue -- especially when they described themselves as "pro-life" as recently as last week.)

Crist, who has lost every statewide race he’s entered since he ran as a Republican in 2006, is running as a Democrat – but that does not mean he’s entitled to our support. There is a QUALIFIED, STRONG, PRO-CHOICE candidate – a better option – running against him in the Democratic primary. If elected, Fried would be the first female governor in Florida history.

After SCOTUS’ decision on Friday, we are working overtime to send pro-choice legislators to positions of power. In Florida, that means electing Nikki Fried. We cannot afford to have anti-choice “Democrats” in office. There are plenty of real pro-choice options on the Democratic side.

Nikki is an incredible candidate, and she’s inches away from a position of power that is more critical than ever to the fight for women’s rights. We need to ensure Nikki makes it through her upcoming primary election, and to do that, we need your help.
