Friend,
Have you heard about Ryan Kelley? He’s the extreme Republican candidate running for Michigan governor who was arrested earlier this month for participating in the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol Building.
His arrest should be disqualifying. There was no peaceful transfer of power on January 6th, 2021, and that day’s violence will forever stain our democracy.
But, friend, here’s what stunned me:
A poll taken in the days after Kelley’s arrest made national news actually showed Kelley leading his Republican rivals in the race to be Michigan’s next Governor.
I’ll be blunt, friend. That poll tells you everything you need to know about the stakes in the upcoming midterm elections here in Michigan. We must double down on our efforts to stop anti-democratic, big lie-pushing extremists like Kelley from winning key races.
