Dear John,
We are just 24 hours away from the end of First Liberty’s fiscal year on June 30 and it’s more vital than ever to meet the $2.5 million goal to replenish our Fighting Fund.
Here’s why.
God has placed First Liberty in an incredibly unique position at the Supreme Court for such a time as this. I could have never imagined that God would be using us to do such great things.
For example, there’s not been just one, but TWO Supreme Court victories announced in the last few days. In fact, First Liberty fought two of the four religious liberty cases at the Supreme Court this term—and we won both! What a historic moment!
Go all-in together to replenish our Fighting Fund for 2022 >>
Last Tuesday, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Treating Children Fairly when it comes to parents choosing religious schools. What a major victory for religious freedom!
And on Monday the Court ruled in favor of Coach Kennedy, setting precedent so that now millions of teachers and coaches have religious protection while on the job.
Because so much of our First Liberty Fighting Fund has already been used to support the fight for these critical victories, it’s crucial that we replenish it to remain on the frontlines in this battle for the rest of the year.
Meeting our $2.5 million goal by June 30th is crucial so First Liberty can continue winning cases, putting a stop to court packing and defending our first freedom.
So please give your very best gift today because we must continue to press forward!
We are now just weeks away from filing the Sweet Cakes by Melissa case at the Supreme Court in the fall on behalf of Aaron and Melissa Klein.
Sweet Cakes by Melissa is a small family-owned bakery in Oregon operated by Aaron and Melissa.
When they declined to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex wedding, the Oregon government penalized them $135,000 and told them they needed “rehabilitation”—for simply running their family business according to their faith.
The Kleins were forced to close their shop and even endured violent death threats.
First Liberty has been with Aaron and Melissa for the past eight years. We’ve fought for them at the Oregon Court of Appeals and in D.C. at the U.S. Supreme Court.
When the Supreme Court vacated the Oregon Court of Appeals ruling, the Oregon court responded by putting the case on ice for two years finally issuing a ruling earlier this year.
But, this ruling continues to be deeply concerning to me.
In its ruling, the court completely disregarded the guidance from the U.S. Supreme Court when the justices explicitly instructed them that government officials cannot treat religious Americans with such blatant hostility.
The court admitted that Oregon government officials acted with bias against the Klein’s faith. Yet, the court still sent their case back to the very same bureaucratic agency that showed anti-Christian bias for a do-over.
This isn’t right. Aaron and Melissa deserve better… They deserve justice.
That’s why First Liberty is taking this case back to the Supreme Court. And with your support, we will win for the Kleins—and for millions of faith-based business owners.
As with all of First Liberty’s clients, Aaron and Melissa pay nothing—which means we can only bring this case to the Supreme Court with your help.
I pray you will join us in this battle and contribute your best gift right now to our First Liberty Fighting Fund to help us achieve victory for Aaron and Melissa.
This is so critical that a group of donors have offered up a $300,000 Challenge Grant… and your help is vital to fully meet this challenge.
And pray with me that our $2.5 million goal will be met by the June 30 deadline.
Thank you for standing with First Liberty at this crucial time!
Yes, you can count on me >>
Gratefully,
Kelly
