Dear John,

The ballots have been counted, and with receiving 75% of the votes, we can claim victory in the Democratic primary election! Thank you!

We built a strong campaign, with diverse endorsements from organizations and elected leaders throughout Cook County. And with having raised over $1 million since January, we had a strong base of donors that helped fund our voter outreach program.

I extend my deepest gratitude to the voters who have supported me in the primary election and I look forward to another term in November. I’m grateful that Cook County voters have entrusted me to run the nation’s second-largest county in the country for the past twelve years, and look forward to all the good work that lies ahead.

In my 4th term, I will focus on the distribution of Cook County’s $1 billion in American Rescue Plan Act funding, which must be allocated over the next three years and spent in the next five years. We will launch our $42 million guaranteed income program, the nation’s largest, a first-of-its-kind program to abolish up to $1 billion in medical debt, and historic investments in mental and behavioral health services including Cook County Health’s new Department of Mental Health. These programs will supplement Cook County’s legacy commitment to public health and public safety.

While we claimed victory last night, the political fight is not over.  As Chair of the Cook County Democratic Party, we will pivot our focus to the November election to support our slate and elect Democrats up and down the ballot.

Thank you again for your continued support. We did it!

Sincerely,

Toni Preckwinkle
