Nottingham schools set for improvements after ?2.6m grant award

School children

We?ve announced a further ?2.6m to support city schools with building projects. The money has come from the Government?s Capital Maintenance Grant, approved at Executive Board last week, and we?ve already identified five Nottingham schools which will benefit immediately.

As a former headteacher, I know how important it is both?for pupils and staff to be working in warm, dry and safe buildings. This latest funding will make a huge difference to these schools and we look forward to seeing the projects progress over the coming months. Find out more

Work on electric taxi wireless charging gets underway in a UK first for Nottingham

Wireless Taxi Charging on Trent Street

It?s exciting that roadworks outside our Loxley House council headquarters near Nottingham Station are the start of a UK first ? a project to allow electric taxis to charge up wirelessly while they wait for passengers.

We are already at the forefront of green innovation, with 54 hackney cabs ? the most outside London - being electric vehicles. Now, thanks to a successful bid for ?930,000 from the Government?s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles ? and so at no cost to the council or local taxpayers ? work is underway to install five wireless charging pads into the road. This will allow local taxi drivers taking part in the trial to charge electric vehicles without any cables while they queue in one of the busiest taxi ranks in the city.

Construction and testing will be ready for the trial to get underway in August. This trailblazing scheme could be a real gamechanger in electric vehicle charging and is another part of our efforts to become a carbon neutral city.

RSE Day - 30 June 2022

RSE Day 2022

Nottingham City Council founded RSE Day in 2018 and continues to lead this nationwide celebration of excellent education around healthy relationships and positive sexual health.? The day, which is happening tomorrow, is a call to action for schools, families, communities and organisations to take an active role in educating in this area and sharing their work via events and on social media.

This year's theme is 'Celebrating Differences - Everyone Can Sparkle.' RSE Day in 2022 will be more like those we celebrated prior to the pandemic, with the opportunity for visits, and a Nottingham wide project creating 'Welcoming Spaces.' ?

We know from our on-going work with headteachers how important this is for children and young people in terms of highlighting the need for safe and healthy relationships. The lessons in schools are all age-appropriate and pupils are taught by experienced staff who understand how to deliver these messages. Find out more about the day here.
