A note from the NDRC team…

We want to acknowledge that the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is hitting many people hard. This decision will cause tremendous harm. The NDRC is committed to working for a future in which all human rights are protected.

John, I’d like to share with you the story of the NDRC: How we got our start, what we’ve accomplished so far, and all that we still have left to do in order to defend our democracy.

It’s an incredible story that supporters like you should be proud of – but if you don’t have time to read it and you’d rather just make a donation to support the NDRC’s mission, you can do so here.

2017: The NDRC launched with a mission to end GOP gerrymandering.

2018: We helped fair-map Democrats win their elections and supported redistricting reforms.

2019-2020: We fought for voting rights and helped elect more Democrats who would fight for fair redistricting.

2021: We mobilized our grassroots network to advocate for a fair redistricting process.

2022 and beyond: We’re working to defend the progress we’ve made, hold Republicans accountable, and elect more Democrats.

In 2011, Republicans manipulated the maps – and even though Democrats won the 2012 congressional popular vote by 1.4 million votes, the GOP won 33 more seats in the U.S. House. This was fundamentally unfair, and we could see that gerrymandering was obstructing the progressive legislation desired by the majority of Americans. Clearly, something had to be done.

So, in 2017, we launched the NDRC. And from the beginning, we made a big impact with targeted investments to help elect Democrats who would fight for fair maps. On Election Day 2018, fair-map candidates won at the ballot box, along with redistricting reforms that Republicans are still fighting to this day.

In 2019 and 2020, we continued to support fair-map candidates while also defending the freedom to vote amidst a coordinated GOP push to pass voter suppression laws that targeted communities of color and hurt all voters. And when the redistricting cycle began again in 2021, we placed the spotlight on map manipulation and mobilized activists against GOP gerrymandering all over the country.

Thanks to our work, the maps that are in place are far more fair than they would have been if Republicans had been allowed to gerrymander unchecked. But even now, there are court cases pending and elections coming up that will have a big impact on the maps of the future and the gains we’ve already made. So the fight isn’t over – we have a lot more to do and we can’t afford to get complacent.

Since our launch, the NDRC has been successful thanks to the generous support of grassroots donors like you. That hasn’t changed. So I’m concluding by asking: John, will you pitch in today to support our ongoing work for fair redistricting?
