We knew the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade was coming, but nothing could soften the blow that we all felt on Friday.

On the heels of that decision, Clarence Thomas, a Justice who has taken money from right-wing groups without disclosure and who has used his position to protect his wife’s participation in insurrection and an attempted coup, announced his goal to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, the ruling that legalized gay marriage.

We know that the assault on reproductive rights was just the opening act of the GOP’s broader goals of also dehumanizing the LGBTQ+ community, assaulting reproductive rights, and imposing an extreme, fundamentalist worldview on American democracy. Virginia will soon be the testing ground as we face the reelection of all 140 members of the General Assembly.

That’s why my team has set a goal of raising $7,000 before our end-of-quarter fundraising deadline this Thursday. Join me in defending the right to access safe and legal abortion [[link removed]] – and a whole host of other essential rights, including contraception and marriage equality, by protecting our one-seat Senate Majority.

More than half of the states have outright banned or further restricted abortion because of Friday’s rulings. Virginia remains one of the few states that will continue to leave that critical decision between a patient and their healthcare providers.

We must do everything within our power to ensure that extreme Republicans and the governor who want politicians and lawyers to make private medical decisions do not get their way. We will fight back.
