Our team is on the ground at the 2022 [2]Aspen Ideas Festival, where the
ideas are bigger and bolder than ever. In this small Colorado mountain
town, leaders are gathering to discuss some of the world’s biggest
challenges—and possible solutions.

Last week, when the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Secretary of
Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra announced on the [3]Aspen Ideas:
Health stage that his department is [4]considering transportation services
for those seeking an abortion in another state. The Festival also aired an
[5]exclusive interview from media partner NBC with Ukrainian President
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who vowed to fight for the release of two American
military veterans captured in Ukraine.

John Doerr, a venture capitalist and chairman at Kleiner Perkins, [6]joined
CNBC from the Festival to discuss the “epic transition” the country is
undergoing from a fossil fuel economy to a clean energy one. Read on to
discover more ideas from our featured speakers.di

[8]The Lower Courts Shape US Health Care

The Supreme Court may be more visible in the national news, but [9]Katie
Keith thinks we need to pay attention to the hundreds of district and
appellate courts. Keith, the director of the Health Policy and Law
Initiative at Georgetown University, says this is where the [10]vast
majority of decisions are made, including ones that have blocked an array
of national health policies.

[13]Transcend Race and Fight Racism

[14]Thomas Chatterton Williams is trying to [15]build a society that
transcends race. In his recent book, Self Portrait in Black and White, the
author unearthed the story of his multigenerational family and, in turn,
unraveled his previous notions of race. After he and his French wife had
their first child, Williams realized that racial categories could not
contain his daughter—or any other human being.

[18]How to Channel Climate Angst into Action

[19]Alaina Wood is known as “The Garbage Queen” on TikTok. As a
sustainability scientist and climate communicator, she wants to dispel the
notion that you must be [20]perfectly sustainable to make a difference in
the fight against climate change. Instead, she says it is fine to do
whatever is within your means and focus on holding the biggest
polluters—like governments and corporations—accountable.

[23]Our Health Workers Are in Crisis

Personnel shortages, more paperwork, racism and trauma, threats of
violence—these are just some of the [24]intersecting crises that US health
care workers face today. A less understood issue is moral injury, says
[25]Dave Chokshi, a primary care internist and clinical professor at the
NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Moral injury refers to the sense of
powerlessness within systems that keep health care workers from healing
those they aim to serve–and to address it requires fundamental change.
