In this Season of Independence, Does Your State Have Work to Do?
June 24th is now a historic day. After nearly 50 years, Roe v. Wade’s reign finally came to an end.
This now-important date, June 24th, falls between two other dates of independence. Just four days earlier, the nation had celebrated Juneteenth, which commemorates the emancipation of slaves in 1865. And just six days from today, we will celebrate America’s Independence Day, July 4th.

All of these dates are important and signify the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another in the life of our nation. Historically, on each of those days, an oppressive and destructive way of doing things passed away and new life-filled opportunities arose. At times, those opportunities brought mighty challenges, but challenges that led to better lives for an entire nation.
If you’re like me, you may sometimes wonder if you had been alive during a historic time, would you have stood up for what was right and fought for justice?
