John – On this day, 53 years ago, the NYPD raided a quiet little club in Greenwich Village called The Stonewall Inn.
It was hardly the first time the cops invaded this well-known private gay bar, but something WAS different in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969.
This time, the patrons fought back.

It was the start of a massive movement for Queer Liberation. We’ve organized for decades, and along the way we’ve had many victories. I know, I’ve been in the trenches of that fight my entire adult life.

But John, we still have a long way to go.
LGBTQ Americans are still drastically underrepresented in all levels of government, and too many elected officials are comfortable maintaining systems of discrimination that empower reactionary, right-wing forces who continue to terrorize our community.
Brand New Congress is fully committed to electing a diverse Congress that represents the full spectrum of American life – that includes electing more LGBTQIA+ representatives like Odessa Kelly (TN-07), Brittany Ramos DeBarros (NY-11), and Rebecca Parson (WA-06).
Odessa, Brittany, and Rebecca all have elections coming up in August, and they’re counting on BNC’s support. Unfortunately, right now we are still far below our June fundraising goal and we need to raise at least another $5,000 before midnight on Thursday. Can you pitch in $100, $50, or even $25 today? The radical, right-wing supermajority on the Supreme Court has made their intentions clear. They are coming after ALL of our rights – voting rights, reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights are all on the line.
We need representatives who will lead with courage and conviction. People who, like the patrons of the Stonewall Inn and decades of activists who followed, recognize when we must oppose unjust laws – and fight to pass better laws.
Right now, in the wake of Roe v Wade being overturned, BNC representatives like AOC and Cori Bush are leading the difficult conversations with absolute moral clarity.
To codify our civil rights firmly into law, we need to elect DOZENS more like them. Will you contribute now to help Brand New Congress elect progressive fighters like Brittany, Rebecca, and Odessa? [[link removed]]

Since 2016 BNC has led the way in advancing popular policies like Medicare for All and the Green New Deal. We invest EARLY to help grassroots candidates succeed. We recruited and elected AOC in 2018 and Cori Bush in 2020 alongside Jamaal Bowman and Rashida Tliab. And we have our first win of 2022: Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick won her primary by FIVE votes thanks to BNC.
We have elections from now until November, and our candidates are counting on your support. Pitch in today and join us as we take over Congress and return power to the people.
