As we near the end of Pride month, I hope we can all take a moment to reflect on the importance of this celebration and on the need to uplift the voices of the LGBTQ community not just now, but always.

Last week, we gathered with members of the community to celebrate Pride month and to continue building support for our movement.

With your help, I’m going to become the first openly-gay Latina lawmaker in the State Senate, and the first LGBTQ parent in the legislature.

The fight for LGBTQ rights in Florida is personal to me, because of my identity and because I’m raising my children here – and I want all children to feel free to be themselves and be proud of their identity and their family’s identity.

Here in Florida, some of the most vulnerable members of the LGBTQ community have been facing a series of attacks from our state government – LGBTQ youth. That’s why I’m joining NationSwell tomorrow at 2 PM ET for a panel discussion [[link removed]] on protecting the dignity of our LGBTQ youth.

This event will be a great opportunity to raise awareness on this incredibly important issue and to come together to find ways to affirm the dignity and rights of LGBTQ youth.

It’s more important than ever to show up for our community and send a message to our LGBTQ youth that they are loved and respected.

When my wife, Monica, and I decided to get married, the support and love I received from my family was invaluable. They were able to share in the moment and celebrate with us at our wedding as we embarked on our new journey together.

My own experiences, as well as the stories I’ve heard talking to people in our district, give me the motivation to keep fighting everyday to ensure the LGBTQ community is accepted and celebrated, this month and every month.
