Michelle Siri and I will join transgender activists from across Maryland for a roundtable discussion on the impact of the SCOTUS decision on abortion rights and the broader threat to LGBTQ+ rights — especially for transgender people — that Justice Thomas alluded to in his concurring decision. We will also discuss what Maryland state government needs to do to support those in the trans community, with a focus on health care, safety, and young people. When it comes to standing up for the trans community, words are not enough. I am proud to stand with the trans community, and to express my support by marching in pride parades around the state, meeting with stakeholders and activists, and being the ONLY candidate who shared a detailed plan to protect LGBTQ+ rights long before pride month began.

Here are just some of the steps I plan to take as governor to expand and protect LGBTQ+ rights: protect transgender youth and create a safe state for families escaping regressive laws elsewhere, protect and expand access to gender-affirming health care, pass the Trans Health Equity Act, work to make health care more affordable and accessible to LGBTQ+ Marylanders, and ensure that providers are properly trained to give the level of culturally-competent care that LGBTQ+ people deserve.
