John, will you take powerful action?
Dear John,
I joined the staff at the National Center for Transgender Equality earlier this month – Pride month.
While that is certainly something to celebrate, I am also entering this space at a painful time for our community. On top of the ongoing attacks on trans rights, our reproductive justice, which is inextricably linked to trans justice, just received a devastating blow. Our movements are fighting for the same future: Bodily autonomy. Equitable healthcare. Economic justice. Racial justice. Liberation.
I know that future may seem far away today. I acknowledge the grief of this moment. But rest assured, NCTE will keep working toward building that future.
There is a dedicated team of people here at NCTE that will continue to challenge anti-trans legislation, and work proactively to move the needle on trans equality.
John, I’ll be honest with you, though: trans organizations like NCTE remain profoundly under-resourced. For every $100 awarded by foundations in the U.S., less than 3 cents benefits trans communities.
So, how can we win against anti-trans legislation and rampant threats to our bodily autonomy?
By joining together. Collectively, we are powerful.
If you’re feeling outraged, defeated, or hopeless, I’m with you. I’m also going to channel those feelings into powerful action. Are you with me?
We’re two days away from the end of Pride month. June 30th is #GiveOUTDay, a national day of giving to LGBTQ organizations.
Make a gift today to support NCTE, to channel your outrage, and to give us all hope for the future.
