Friend: We are witnessing the power of Democratic majorities in Congress before our very eyes. If Republicans had been in charge, we would likely still be in the dark about a host of chilling details pertaining to the Jan. 6 insurrection and the GOP plot to overturn a free and fair election.
What we've learned so far is astounding:
Donald Trump pursued plans tantamount to a coup – even though senior members of his administration and own family advised him that there was no widespread election fraud.
Trump's lawyer, John Eastman, fanned the flames of conspiracy, but as soon as his coup plans failed, he begged the White House for a presidential pardon – indicating he knew what he was doing was likely illegal.
Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, reportedly communicated directly with local officials in Arizona, urging them to overturn President Biden's victory in the state. She also pressed her case directly with Mark Meadows, the most senior member of Trump's staff. (Later, Justice Thomas would be the only vote on the Supreme Court to support Donald Trump's attempts to withhold documents from the Jan 6. committee.)
Imagine, Friend – knowing the majority of House Republicans voted against certifying President Biden's Electoral College wins – what would be happening now if Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell were calling all the shots in Washington? Trump's attacks on our democracy would be swept under the rug instead of exposed for what they are.
Democrats are hanging on to control of Congress by a single thread. With our democracy at stake, we have to defend Democratic control of the Senate – and that starts with protecting my must-win Senate seat. I'm up against Trump acolytes and $45 million in Senate GOP money, so I'm counting on your grassroots support to win. Please, will you donate $5 or more to win this race, protect Democratic Senate control, and keep holding Republicans accountable?
