Without Apology: The Abortion Struggle Now Study Series Part I

Thursday, June 30 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Supreme Court has officially overturned Roe v. Wade, eliminating our constitutional right to an abortion.

it’s time for us to take stock and continue strategizing to make free abortion, on-demand, without apology a reality!

Join the DSA Los Angeles Political Education Committee for Part I of our study series and strategy session on Jenny Brown’s Without Apology: The Abortion Struggle Now.

At this event, we will engage in a structured discussion about chapter I and, in the process, learn how the women’s liberation movement of the 1960’s won abortion rights, putting together a road map for today’s organizers.

Please RSVP to receive chapter I of Without Apology: The Abortion Struggle Now.

Spanning March through June, this seven module series will introduce attendees to the writings, speeches, and perspectives of Black leftists through most of the twentieth century. Through original sources in writing, audio, and video, we will trace back the history of discourses introduced and developed by Black socialists, all of which have profound impact on our political landscape today.

Join the DSA-LA Political Education Committee for our sixth class of the series: Black Radicals and the Labor Movement.

Pedagogy of the Oppressed – Part 3 – DSA-LA SFV Marxism Reading Group

TODAY! Tuesday, June 28 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Please join us for our discussion of the third chapter of Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire on Tuesday, June 28th.

A summary: “Pedagogy of the Oppressed develops a theory of education fitted to the needs of the disenfranchised and marginalized members of capitalist societies. Combining educational and political philosophy, the book offers an analysis of oppression and a theory of liberation. Freire believes that traditional education serves to support the dominance of the powerful within society and thereby maintain the powerful’s social, political, and economic status quo. To overcome the oppression endemic to an exploitative society, education must be remade to inspire and enable the oppressed in their struggle for liberation.”

A collaborative doc with the text we’ll be discussing, the audiobook version, and Zoom connection information will be provided. Please RSVP for access.

Mutual Aid Book Club: How To Do Nothing Pt.3

Thursday, June 30 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Mutual Aid is graduating to the final book in our four book series on Alienation Under Capitalism. How To Do Nothing: Resisting The Attention Economy by Jenny Odell is a galvanizing critique of the forces vying for our attention-and our personal information-that redefines what we think of as productivity, reconnects us with the environment, and reveals all that we’ve been too distracted to see about ourselves and our world.
