Friend — I have some exciting news to share: Thanks to thousands of LCV donors, we hit our Giving Tuesday Challenge goal and unlocked a donation of $100,000 for LCV and our work in 2020. This is huge! A donation like this makes a huge difference in LCV's fight against climate change going into next year — our last, best chance to address the climate crisis.
The support of thousands of LCV donors will help to do three important things:
- Block Keystone XL. We don't have to tell you that this oil pipeline is harmful and dangerous, but the Trump administration doesn't agree. They are allowing TC Energy Corp (formerly TransCanada) to move forward with its expansion of the Keystone pipeline — called Keystone XL. Property owners along the planned construction route are preparing lawsuits to block new construction, and we need to throw up every possible roadblock to this pipeline. After Giving Tuesday, now we can.
- Save science at the EPA. Since it was leaked that the Trump administration wants to propose a rule that will stop the EPA from using critical public health science in policymaking, we've learned that the Science Advisory Board is being blocked from weighing in before the rule's release. This rule could have dire consequences for our health, especially for low-income and communities of color. Now, we can start organizing to stop this assault on science.
- Protect the Grand Canyon from uranium mining. Unfortunately, the Trump administration cares more about protecting Big Polluters than land that has been home to Indigenous communities, including the Havasupai, Hualapai, Hopi, and Navajo Nation for millennia. And despite a vote in the House to block the sale, their plan to sell out our public land is still in motion. But with this unlocked donation, we have the resources to keep fighting back.
The clock is ticking, friend, to address the climate crisis. But the actions you take today and every day are an important part of the solution.
