We fund voter protection John, In case you missed it … New York Governor Kathy Hochul just signed a landmark piece of voting rights legislation which will take a huge step in protecting the right to vote. The legislation will “prevent local officials from enacting rules that might suppress people’s voting rights because of their race” and “provide legal tools to fight discriminatory voting provisions.” It’s fantastic news for democracy, and it’s reminded me and my team exactly why what we’re doing is so important. We can and we must defend voting rights, but we need your help. Thank you, Kim Allen Power the Vote
AP NEWS REPORTS: As voting rights come under attack from all directions in states all across the country, we’re thrilled to see success stories like this one. With voting rights under attack, it’s important that blue states send a message that the right to vote is sacred. And in battleground states where the right to vote is under attack, legislation like this reminds us just how important that we continue fighting to defend our voting rights. That’s why we’re funding voter protection staff who will work on the ground in key swing states to help voters exercise their right to vote. Progress is possible, but we need all hands on deck.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul gave a full-throated approval of this legislation when she signed it: “We’re going to change our election laws so we no longer hurt minority communities. I’m so proud to be here to sign this landmark legislation. No state in the nation has stood up with the courage and conviction and the power we have by protecting these important rights.” she said. With leaders like Gov. Hochul willing to stand up and champion democracy, we can make real change. But it will only happen if we can build an unstoppable grassroots movement — starting with you. So today, please donate whatever you can to Power the Vote and defend our democracy: Thank you, Power the Vote
