The new rule is expected to take effect in May 2023, with the goal of helping addicts quit using tobacco and preventing youth from becoming tobacco users. The FDA proposal would reduce nicotine content to minimal or non-addictive levels.

The FDA estimated that such a policy would prevent over 33 million young people from becoming regular smokers.

Today is Pride Day, marking the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York City.

On June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay-friendly bar in Greenwich Village, New York. Unlike previous raids on gay hangouts, the patrons of the Stonewall, and residents of Greenwich Village, pushed back.

The uprising became "a key turning point in the struggle for the civil rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Americans," according to the National Park Service, which has designated the Stonewall Inn as a National Historic Landmark.
