John, I'm excited to share the latest from CRC with you:

  • How is unreported foreign funding influencing America?
The University of Pennsylvania received more than $15 million in anonymous donations from China in 2018. In 2000, the Trump administration called out Harvard and Stanford for failing to report $6.5 billion in foreign funding. In Congress, heightened concerns over unreported foreign money have prompted several legislative proposals. CRC's Sarah Lee critiques the proposed legislation here.
  • Is "woke capitalism" waning?
Recent indications suggest that support for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) activism--"woke capitalism"--may be wavering in corporate America. Yet even if the business elite is becoming less receptive to the ever-growing demands of left-of-center ESG activists, this isn't the endgame. CRC's Robert Stilson warns about the ESG activists have other ways to fulfill their wish list here.
  • What is Vote.org's real goal?
While Vote.org claims to be nonpartisan, nearly all its activities seem designed to increase voter registration and turnout among Democratic voters. The organization not only explicitly targets likely Democratic voters in its outreach, but also proudly allies with other prominent left-wing groups. CRC's Jonathan McGee investigates Vote.org's dubious activities here.
  • Whither conservativism?
In Conservatism: A Rediscovery, political theorist Yoram Hazony argues that conservatism should return to its older, deeper, Anglo-American religious and nationalist roots--as opposed to continuing the newer "classical liberalism" that it basically has been since the 1960s. CRC's Michael Hartmann reviews Hazony's latest offering in his ongoing and intellectual clarification of conservatism here.

Instruments of Woke:
Twitter

When Tesla and Space X boy genius Elon Musk announced in late April 2022 he was interested in buying Twitter--and subsequently struck a deal to purchase the social media platform for $44 billion--it may not have been a coincidence that the Biden administration decided to unveil the new Disinformation Governance Board housed in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security a mere three days later.

After all, Twitter had been instrumental in censoring the New York Post's story about the salacious and alleged pay-to-play contents of Hunter Biden's forgotten laptop. In fact, Twitter has been in the business of disinformation for several years.

Anti-Trust Crackdown

In this episode: The actions of Big Tech companies--most prominently Twitter and Facebook's decision to ban then-President Donald Trump from their platforms--have led conservatives to consider invoking anti-trust powers of which they have long been skeptical to crack down on these companies' power.

Joining me today is an advocate of that approach, Jon Schweppe of the American Principles Project, to make the case for an antitrust crackdown on tech companies.
