Hi,

The Supreme Court’s extreme right-wing majority has issued the worst of
its spring term decisions, and they are devastating to human rights.^1

The justices obliterated the federal right to abortion access, gutting Roe
v. Wade after assuring senators they wouldn’t and robbing bodily autonomy
from millions of women.

They gave guns more constitutional rights than kids, in the wake of Uvalde
and other tragic mass shootings. They—just today—erased the line between
church and state by protecting enforced prayer in public schools.

And Justice Clarence Thomas urged the court to go even further and
eliminate LGBT rights and access to birth control, even as his wife faces
the January 6 committee for conspiring with the Trump camp to steal the
2020 election.^2

This is the most radically extremist and corrupt court we’ve seen in
generations—horribly out of control and wildly out of step with the
American people. And little wonder: Five were appointed by a president who
lost the popular vote and confirmed by senators representing a minority of
the population.^3

[ [link removed] ]We can’t just wait around 30 years for these justices to retire—our
democracy won’t survive. That’s why—in the wake of devastating Supreme
Court opinions that a majority of Americans oppose—we must turn up the
heat on Congress to expand and rebalance the court. Will you chip in?

The extreme right wing worked for 50 years to seize control of the
nation’s highest court. Once they succeeded, they wasted no time enacting
a radically conservative agenda—blatantly ignoring precedent, public
opinion, and even the court's own norms and procedures.

The leak of the Roe v. Wade opinion—solidifying the end to a
constitutional right to abortion—was virtually unheard of, and this
court’s frequent use of the "shadow docket" to dispense with
constitutional rights has been chilling.

Despite how fervently recent nominees assured senators during their
confirmation hearings that they would respect court precedent, the court
has summarily tossed decisions, old and new. In one jaw-dropping case, the
court overturned a 2012 precedent in order to rule that innocence isn’t
sufficient cause to free someone from death row.^4

This is just the beginning. Access to birth control, same-sex and
interracial marriage, voting rights, our very democracy—all of it is at
risk unless we rein in these out-of-control, extremist right-wing
justices.

The court’s size is not prescribed in the Constitution, and Congress has
changed it seven times before with simple legislation.^5 That’s why we
must demand it do so again by adding at least four seats. Demand Progress
has mobilized people to send more than 200,000 messages this year alone
calling on Congress to expand the Supreme Court. We need your help to keep
up the pressure.

[ [link removed] ]This is a five-alarm fire. It’s past time Congress expand the court to
save our human rights, our planet, and our democracy. Will you chip in?
