John —
Last week, DC WFP members helped elect some incredible people-powered champions as the next Democratic nominees for DC Council.
Zachary Parker won the nomination in Ward 5, with an approach focused on better schools, affordable housing, and DC agencies that work for DC residents.
In Ward 1, Brianne Nadeau won the nomination against two challengers, including one former MPD officer who focused on crime. Nadeau won the endorsement of nearly every organization in the race — including Vendedores Unidos, DC’s street vendors, who emphasized that electing a former police officer would be a direct threat to their safety.
And in Ward 6, Charles Allen won his uncontested race to continue his work leading the Council on many important issues as well as representing the communities of Ward 6.
Our DC-wide races were more challenging. Robert White earned more than 40% of the vote in the race for mayor, but ultimately fell short of unseating Muriel Bowser who won 49%. Erin Palmer came even closer, winning 46% of the vote for Council Chair to Phil Mendelson’s 53%. And Lisa Gore came in second in a four-way race for Councilmember At-Large that included long-time incumbent Anita Bonds, and made a persuasive case for Ranked Choice Voting.
We are incredibly grateful to all the DC WFP members and supporters who were part of these campaigns. If you donated, knocked doors, learned about the candidates, spread the word, or voted, you helped make these efforts possible. Thank you.
As many of us were recovering from a long primary season last week, the news broke that the Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade. This Thursday, June 30, Working Families Party will join the Center for Popular Democracy and Planned Parenthood Action for civil disobedience to defend the right to abortion.

Just as with our electoral work, we know that protecting the right to abortion here and across the country will take people working together in order to become a reality. Join us and allies from across the country on Thursday in this next chapter of our fight.
In solidarity,
DC WFP
