Dear John,
Look, I want to be honest with you: I feel utterly gut-punched by the devastating news from the Supreme Court. Abortion. Gun control. The separation between church and state. It’s all being wiped out.
I’m sure you feel similarly.
But unfortunately, we cannot take a breath, because the latest revelations by the congressional committee investigating the January 6 insurrection prove that our very democracy is on the line, SCOTUS notwithstanding.
The panel revealed last week that, moments before Congress met to certify the 2020 election results, Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson tried to hand-deliver fake electors for the coup from Wisconsin and Michigan to Vice President Mike Pence.
A sitting U.S. senator was part of a violent and deadly insurrection to overthrow the U.S. government. He's the latest on the list of traitors in the Republican Party, willing to break their oaths of office for Trump.
And, yet, Johnson still has all of the power in the world. Why?
Because most voters don't know the truth. And, frankly, it's hard to learn the truth in today's media environment. People are busy and overwhelmed with their own lives, trying to pay their bills and meet their own responsibilities in a system that's rigged against the vast majority of us — especially as rights for millions are being stripped.
And millions don't take the time to vote — especially young voters, because politics doesn't feel relevant to them, and they’re disheartened by the lack of action by Democrats who are in office.
John, we have to help connect with those millions and get the truth out, so they know that as bad as it is right now, it could get a whole lot worse.
Will you make a donation to Inequality Media Civic Action to alert the public and help hold traitors in the Republican Party accountable in order to stop the next coup?
So far, at least 108 Republican candidates who embrace the Big Lie have won their nominations or advanced to runoffs in the midterms, and there is no sign that the January 6 hearings have reduced the intensity of their demagoguery.
The good news is that we're well-positioned to educate the masses about Trump’s ongoing coup, and we are doing just that.
We're using our massive social media following on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Snapchat to sound the alarm and alert young people, especially those who are less likely to watch cable news but live every minute online. To expand our reach even further, we've just launched on Snapchat — and so far the response has been extremely encouraging.
To stop these Big Lie candidates from taking over our elections, we need to raise more money than we ever have for any midterm election. Will you make a donation to Inequality Media Civic Action and help save what’s left of our democracy?
Thanks for helping us get the truth out,
Robert Reich
