Pride Month is a time of celebration of the queer and trans community despite oppression.
URGE is focused on uplifting Black-LGBTQIA+ intersectionality this year during Pride Month. Check out our graphic series on [Instagram] and our brief original video on [YouTube].
As we celebrate Pride Month this year, we must acknowledge that sentiment still rings true. Across the country, and especially in URGE’s priority states, we have seen an onslaught of transphobic legislation. This war on trans kids is being led by state legislators, who are fueled by white supremacist ideals of gender.
Criminalization of gender-affirming care for transgender children - targeting parents and healthcare providers - will affect Black, Indigenous, and other people of color the most, particularly those that are low-income and LGBTQIA+.
For queer liberation to be a reality, we need gender-affirming care to be available to everyone - without fear of criminalization and without barriers such as cost, shame, stigma, or location.
