At the bottom of almost every edition of the Texas Minute, you will find a list of Texas' executive officials and legislative districts (including Congress) appearing on your November 2022 ballot. The districts displayed should reflect the lines redrawn by the Legislature, to take representational effect in 2023.

No, You Cannot "Recall" John Cornyn

• In the wake of U.S. Sen. John Cornyn's capitulation to the gun-seizing Democrats, a great many readers have asked how he can be removed from office. The short answer: only at the ballot box in 2026.
     
• There is no "recall" provision in state or federal law for federal officeholders (or Texas' other legislative or executive offices, for that matter). Here's a brief explanation of "recall" elections, and where they exist.
     
• Cornyn and U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-San Antonio) were the only Republicans in Texas' congressional delegation to assist Joe Biden and the Democrats in their crusade against the Second Amendment.

Mr. 16 Percent

• Speaking of Mr. Cornyn... In the Texas GOP straw poll conducted among the party's convention delegates, John Cornyn drew a 67 percent unfavorability rating. Only 16 percent of delegates said they had a favorable view of Mr. Cornyn. Katy Drollinger has those details.

O’Rourke Rallies For Abortion

• Democrat gubernatorial candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke held a rally Sunday in Austin alongside pro-abortion organizations. The rally came in the wake of a decision from the United States Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade and allowing states to have the power to decide the legality of abortion. Emily Wilkerson has the details.

      
• O’Rourke promised that if he was elected governor, he would push abortion access in Texas. He ludicrously compared abortion to gun deaths. “If this were about life, then gun violence would not be the leading cause of death of children and teenagers in the state of Texas.”
     

• In the United States, 1,839 children and teens die from gun violence annually, yet in Texas alone, 53,949 unborn children were killed by abortion in 2020. 

CLAIM: Pelosi Pushes Flores' Young Daughter

• Newly elected U.S. Rep. Mayra Flores (R-TX) has accused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of pushing her daughter during Flores’ swearing-in ceremony. As Jake Peterson reports, a video of Flores’ swearing-in ceremony appears to show Pelosi pushing Flores’ daughter aside while posing for a picture.

     
• “No child should be pushed to the side for a photo op. PERIOD!!” Rep. Flores posted to social media afterward.

House Candidate Indicted for Impersonating Public Servant

• Frederick Frazier, the Republican candidate in Texas House District 61, has been indicted on criminal charges of impersonating a public servant, following an investigation spurred on by accusations of sign-stealing during the GOP primary election earlier this year.
      

• Brandon Waltens has the story, which included an investigation by the Texas Rangers.

        
• Frazier was a member of the McKinney City Council and a Dallas police officer at the time of the incident, though DPD has now put him on administrative leave following his indictment and arrest on Friday.
      
• This case should not be confused with the sheer number of Republican officeholders who impersonate conservatives when campaigning...

Today In History

On June 28, 1919, the Texas Senate ratified what would be the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, guaranteeing women the right to vote. The Texas House had voted for ratification five days earlier.
