Calls to expand the Court threaten democracy.
Hi Friend,
Some politicians who are unhappy with recent Supreme Court rulings are renewing calls to add additional justices to the Court. Rather than do their jobs and enact laws to address the policy implications of legal rulings, these politicians want to subvert the entire system!

“I believe we need to get some confidence back in our court and that means we need more justices on the United States Supreme Court,” Democratic Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren said on ABC News.

Talk about sore losers.

Since 1869, the U.S. Supreme Court has consisted of nine members. Although there is nothing magical about the number nine, our founding fathers did not intend for politicians to be able tamper with a coequal branch of government for political gain.

Expanding the size of the Court to achieve certain outcomes will only undermine the independence of our judiciary and subvert democracy itself. Those who want to enlarge the Court are essentially saying, “If the Court doesn’t vote our way, we will fill it with unelected justices who will.”

Nobody understood the danger of this more than Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who said:

“If anything would make the court look partisan, ... it would be that—one side saying, ‘When we’re in power, we’re going to enlarge the number of judges, so we would have more people who would vote the way we want them to.’”
