Hi John,
Last week, the US Supreme Court unraveled decades of hard-won organizing gains—gains that were put in place to protect and expand the basic civil rights at the core of our democracy. From overturning the right to abortion to upholding a gerrymandered district in Kansas, the highest court of our democracy is no longer the beacon of justice we once believed.
But that doesn’t mean the fight stops there. State legislatures, governors, and state supreme courts will now hold the power to decide who controls our bodies, who we can and can’t marry, whether and how we can vote. In fact, 95% of all court cases happen at the state level where pivotal decisions about reproductive rights, fair maps, access to voting and other critical issues continue to move forward.
Join us this Thursday for a free webinar [[link removed]] on understanding why state courts will be critical in the battle for abortion access as we enter this new chapter.
State supreme courts have been a part of conservatives’ analysis for decades, and progressives are unfortunately just catching up. Now, more than ever, we need to take the fight to the state courts. Join re:power for a free webinar led by and for organizers and activists to learn about how state courts impact every issue we organize around— and what we can do about it.
