Dear Friends,
On Friday morning, the United States Supreme Court released its final decision in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. In a 6-3 ruling, the court upheld Mississippi's law banning most abortions after 15 weeks. In the process, the court overturned both the 1973 Roe v. Wade and 1992 Planned Parenthood v. Casey decisions.
The Dobbs ruling appropriately recognizes the Constitution does not confer the right to abortion, and gives individual states the ability to regulate the practice. The Supreme Court is correct in this ruling based on the Constitution and has exercised sound legal rationale.

Protecting Law-Abiding Citizens Second Amendment Rights |
The Democrats and President Biden have continued to politicize recent heartbreaking events in order to ram through a big-government gun control agenda that would not have prevented these tragedies from taking place. On Friday, Nancy Pelosi put a gun control bill on the House floor that was drafted in secret, did not go through any formal committee process, and was released just hours before the vote. The gun control measure regrettably undermines the fundamental Constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans.
In the bill, there are enough loopholes that will allow blue-state governors to take federal funds and implement their own radical “red-flag” laws – putting law-abiding gun owners at risk of having their Second Amendment rights taken away. Furthermore, this legislation criminalizes routine firearms transactions and needlessly singles out law-abiding citizens under the age of 21 for heightened scrutiny. Even worse, this bill was voted on just one day after the Supreme Court’s historic decision upheld the Constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms to protect themselves and their families.
While I have long been a champion for addressing our nation’s mental health crisis, I opposed this legislation because it only further restricts law-abiding citizens’ Constitutional right to bear arms. We simply won’t eliminate gun violence by making it harder for law-abiding folks to defend themselves.

Providing Students with Mental Health Resources |
Over the past couple of years, we have seen a significant rise in mental health issues with our students – at all grade levels – and what our children need are resources at a very early stage. That is why I continue to push Congress to pass my legislation, the Behavioral Intervention Guidelines (BIG) Act. This essential bill would give schools the necessary resources to assist students with mental health challenges. By accumulating best practices from different schools around the country, the BIG Act prioritizes early intervention to help these young people stay on track.
Last Thursday, the BIG Act was offered as an amendment to H.R. 7666, the Restoring Hope for Mental Health and Well-Being Act, and passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 320-103. I’m very proud to see strong bipartisan support and I call on Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to bring the BIG Act up for a vote on the Senate floor.
