Hi, I'm
Sofia. I’m reaching out today to invite you to a special upcoming webinar.
Before I do, let me tell you a bit about who I am. I am a first generation
Mexican American trans woman, and for the past nine years, I’ve been
organizing around health care issues and Medicare for All in Texas.

I fight for Medicare for All because our current health care system wasn’t
designed to serve people like me — it was designed to serve cisgender,
straight, white people who can afford medical care.

LGBTQIA+ people have to overcome enormous obstacles to get the care we
need, and then we must be resilient in navigating the additional
deterrents of discrimination. We need to organize to transform our
healthcare system so that marginalized communities can get the
high-quality, comprehensive care they need, when they need it.

In order to win Medicare for All, we must ensure that the face and
leadership of the movement is made up of, reflects, and centers the
communities that have historically and continue to be shut out of our
health care system.

We must commit to continue the fight for our health. [ [link removed] ]That’s why, in
honor of Pride Month, I’m joining National Nurses United as the guest
presenter for a webinar on the intersection of Medicare for All,
communities of color, and the fight for LBGTQIA+ equality. Will you join

I know how hard this work is — but I also know firsthand that when we come
together, we can win. I’ve led the organizing work in South Texas to
pressure our Congressional representatives to support Medicare for All,
including the successful campaign that got Rep. Lloyd Doggett to finally
sign on in support. (And on top of that, I’m a graduate of the Fall 2021
Medicare for All Leadership School! You can see my graduation photo
below.)

Being insured and able to afford care isn't enough to overcome
discrimination, hostility, and phobias in our health care system — but
Medicare for All is a step toward addressing these things.

During the webinar, we’ll examine the ways that marginalized communities
are disproportionately affected by our broken health care system and how
Medicare for All can be part of the solution.
